The 10th Netzwerk21 Congress convened in Dortmund, providing a pivotal platform for sustainability stakeholders from local authorities, NGOs, and initiatives. Against the backdrop of the United Nations’ adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there emerges a renewed framework for cultivating an environmentally friendly, socially just, economically successful, and culturally diverse society. The 2030 Agenda simultaneously beckons all nation-states and societal actors to actively contribute to these goals, spanning from the global to the local level.

On October 27 and 28, 2016, participants engaged in a rich dialogue at the congress, exploring how to embed global sustainability goals within municipalities. Discussions delved into strategies for fortifying neighborhoods in the face of new challenges and underscored the intrinsic connection between sufficiency and a good life.

My involvement extended beyond attendance, as I collaborated on shaping the program with the organizers and assumed the role of moderator throughout the two-day congress. This dynamic exchange of ideas underscored the collective commitment to advancing sustainable development at all levels of society.
