What constitutes the ideal scenario for air pollution control in Reutlingen? Despite the implementation of measures outlined in the clean air plan, the legally mandated limit for nitrogen dioxide (NO2) remains exceeded at various points in the city. In response to a ruling by the Sigmaringen Administrative Court in October 2014, the state of Baden-Württemberg is compelled to revise the clean air plan promptly to ensure compliance with immission limit values.
In response to this challenge, the authorities have initiated the “Model City Reutlingen” project. Within this project, experts, including Aviso GmbH, engineering firm Matthias Rau, and ifeu Institute, Dr Brenner Ingenieure, have been commissioned to develop scenarios comprising a combination of measures to swiftly achieve compliance with limit values. Importantly, the development of these scenarios involves active public participation. A “Spurgruppe,” consisting of approximately 20 representatives from relevant social groups, has been established to advise on the expert report’s preparation and provide input on further public involvement. Information events for the general public are scheduled to commence in 2017.
My role involves crafting the dialogue, leading public participation efforts in collaboration with partners Satzbauamt GmbH (handling media relations) and ifok GmbH (conducting evaluations), and moderating the forum.
