Merely improving the “business as usual” approach won’t suffice – what we need is a profound reorientation. This is the rallying cry that will mark the beginning of the 11th Netzwerk21 Congress on November 29 and 30, 2017, at the Lokhalle in Göttingen. The theme for this year’s nationwide training and networking congress dedicated to local sustainability efforts is “Embracing Change: Think Globally, Act Locally.” The objective is to make the concept of “sustainability” more tangible, visible, and perceptible than ever before, as the challenges of poverty, climate change, and species extinction demand practical solutions. The local level provides the ideal platform for developing and testing innovations.
During the congress, workshops and strategy debates will explore topics such as the art of networking, municipal sustainability management, social and fair local initiatives, as well as lifestyle changes.
The 11th presentation of the German Local Sustainability Award, ZeitzeicheN, will be a highlight of the Netzwerk21 Congress. The award aims to enhance public awareness of exemplary commitment to implementing the 2030 Agenda. Recognizing initiatives that have keenly understood the signs of the times, continually inspire new stakeholders to take action, and pioneer innovative ways of communicating their project ideas, the award provides fresh momentum and encourages further engagement.
As for my role, I am excited about moderating the congress once again, engaging with numerous inspiring individuals and their contributions, and participating in the ZeitzeicheN award ceremony!
